This was way before LinkedIn came about and I was taught that you needed to use the phone and actually speak to candidates and clients! I had great success as a recruiter from an early stage and became a big biller however after our company was taken over in 2004 I decided it was time to strike out on my own and that’s when I set up Vine Resources. Starting in my bedroom and working 7 days a week that first year was really tough!
I still remember the pain of not getting paid from a client for the first 3 months and it how much that hurt on my cash flow! However I got through it and started to not only to place great candidates with some fantastic clients across Europe but I had the chance to put the building blocks in place to build a recruitment business. One thing I’ve learned is that you need to constantly be open and drive change as the recruitment industry never stands still.
